Pitch Perfect is an American musical comedy movie based on Mickey Rapkin’s book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory. It was released on September 28, 2012. The movie tells a story about an all-girl a cappella group which struggles through a hard way in order to become the winner of national a cappella competition.
Barden Bellas, an all-girl a cappella group from Barden University, is performing during a national a cappella competition in 2011. They perform well until one of the member, Aubrey Posen (played by Anna Camp), vomited during the performance. Because of that incident, they can’t continue their performance, thus they get disqualified.
Months later, two of the Barden Bellas’ member, Aubrey and Chloe Beale (played by Brittany Snow), holds an audition for the freshmen to be recruited as the member of the Barden Bellas. One of the auditionees, Beca Mitchell (played by Anna Kendrick), was reluctant at first. She even thought that she had no desire to go the university. However, her father forced her to go. In the end, she obliges to him, and she even get to be one of Barden Bellas’ members.
During Beca’s time as a member of the Barden Bellas, she enjoys her time with the other members. The members of the Barden Bellas practice their performance in order for them to be able to win the next national a cappella competition. The leader of the grup, Aubrey, insists that they have to sing the song that the Barden Bella has sung on the previous national a cappella competition. Beca thinks that the group should be more daring by singing another songs that have more beats in them. However, Aubrey doesn’t agree and insists that the song that has been sung in the past will lead them to become the winner of the competition.
When semi-finals comes, Beca gives an impromptu back up during the Barden Bellas’ performance. The audience seems to be interested in it. They comes up to be in the third place. On the other hand, Aubrey seems dissatisfied with what Beca has done. Aubrey thinks that Beca should have gone with the plan that they have prepared before. Then, she gets furious towards Beca. In the end, Beca decides to quit from the group.
Later, because the winner of the semi-finals is disqualified, the Barden Bellas is called to take a part in the final. The Bellas prepare their performance for the final, without Beca’s presence. This time, Aubrey decides that they should sing the usual song in the competition. The other members of Bellas feel that something is amiss without Beca. The groups starts to falls apart. From then on, the Bellas must find their way to get back together for the sake of joining the final.
From watching this movie, the message that can be taken is that we have to accept other people’s opinions and don’t force what we want to other people. We have to appreciate other people’s opinion and consider them when we want to make a decision for the sake of so many people. So, we can’t be selfish. In addition, we have to forgive someone even though it’s hard to do .Moreover, we also have to treasure our friendship.
All in all, Pitch Perfect is an inspiring movie. I recommend this movie to those who like a movie with a story about friendship, music, and a little romance in it. I hope everyone who read my review will find this movie interesting just like I do.
